EPISODE 78: [MINDFULNESS] STEP INTO YOUR POWER, EVEN IN CHALLENGING MOMENTS

SHOW NOTES

Our first mindfulness episode of Season 3! The mindfulness episodes are one of my favorite episodes to produce because it almost gives me an excuse or a reason to take time to myself, refill my cup, and reconnect with my inner peace.

It's great because you all love them too! Based on the messages I get and our downloads whenever we release one, it shows we all need more time in our lives to step away from the day-to-day, breathe, and reflect.

This couldn't have come at a better time because the news has been weighing heavily on me lately and I’ve been experiencing this underlying, ongoing anxiety, a sense of dread, and hopelessness. I know I’m not the only one.

So this mindfulness episode is for anyone who feels similarly. Join me as we take the time to pause, reclaim the power we do have, and harness our inner peace.

Welcome to the fuck saving face podcast where we're empowering mental and emotional health for Asian Americans and beyond by breaking through taboo topics. Life may not always be pretty, but it is indeed beautiful. Let's make your story beautiful today.

Welcome to this season's first mindfulness episode, these have become some of my favorite episodes. I've also noticed in the backend analytics that they are getting the most downloads for the most part. So it goes to show that we all could use a moment to breathe and take pause and simply reflect. I've also been so grateful because so many people have reached out and shared how much they love hearing my voice. And they like Wilder just playing on in the background, and that they could just have that all the time. It's similar to what people used to say when they'd hear me typing.

I type over 100 words a minute, so it makes good background white noise, I guess. It has been a nutty time in the world. And recently, a friend of mine chatted about how we both been kind of experiencing this anxiety and the sense of dread. And because I'm super intuitive, it's always a bit confusing. I'm not sure if it's me having a premonition of something that could come.

Or if potentially the kind of Zeitgeist, the feeling, the pulse of the world is simply catching up with me, and I'm just very much an empath, I can viscerally feel it in my body, the feelings that other people that I'm close to who I very much love when they're feeling stressed, or overwhelmed, I can feel it recently, my partner texted that he had this very meaningful exchange with one of his close friends. And the second that I read the text, I could feel it in my body, the feelings that he probably was going through, and I checked in in with him about it later. And then when my daughter if she's not feeling well, physically, I can feel that in my body as well. Like if she's nauseous, or she can't breathe, I literally start to feel the same feelings.

And so I can imagine that if you are also sensitive if you are also an empath, if you are a an HSP, as they call it, a highly sensitive person, then this time on the planet, and whatever it is that you're going through personally, it's not like life has stopped in the time that we have, you know, been living so there's just probably so much that we are holding on to. And so today's mindfulness practice is going to be short and sweet, so that you have the opportunity to kind of infuse it throughout the day. Whether you're driving, dropping your kids off at school, if you are standing in line, if you are just at your desk and need to take a moment, wherever you're working from now, this practice is for you. Wherever you are right now see if you can find a moment of stillness.

Judy Tsuei  03:08

This practice is to remind you of who you are at your core, whatever is unfolding in the world around you. So taking a moment to reconnect with your breath, noticing if perhaps you've been breathing in and out of your mouth lately, if you can start to bring the inhalations and exhalations in and out of your nose. inhaling deeply holding at the top, exhaling everything out. Holding at the bottom and continued for

Judy Tsuei  03:49

about three more cycles of breath at your own pace. Seeing if you can deepen your inhalation and your exhalation each round that you breathe. So the next cycle of breath will be held a little bit longer, a little bit deeper. And the one after that.

04:09

Continue flowing at your own pace.

Judy Tsuei  04:20

On your last exhale, just take a moment.

04:24

Call your spirit back. Call all of

Judy Tsuei  04:28

your awareness and your attention back to you here right here right now.

04:34

In this moment, you are safe.

Judy Tsuei  04:39

Continue to let your breath come in and out of your nose. Let it be natural. Let your belly relax your shoulders, the muscles in your body you may be tensing your jaw or the edges of your eyes might be creased and see if you can just use your breath as you inhale from the crown of your head through the soles of your feet, encouraging yourself to relax and be here now. Every time you exhale, it's an invitation to let go of something you've been holding on to a worry, feeling anxiety

Judy Tsuei  05:22

or concern, just some heaviness and pain. Just let it all go. For this moment. Now, you can pick it right back up if you'd like to, but for this moment,

05:34

can you let it go and I invite you to repeat after me.

Judy Tsuei  05:44

I am fill in your name and what it is that you do or how you show up in the world. So I would say I am Judy sway

05:55

and I'm a mother, an author,

Judy Tsuei  06:01

owner of a branding and marketing agency. Whatever it is for you just take one full cycle of breath when you complete that sentence on your next inhale, breathe in and say I am and fill in your name.

06:26

And that's it. You and your name. Exhale

Judy Tsuei  06:34

notice how that feels in your body in your being

06:43

on the next inhale breathing in I am just your first name observe if anything has shifted breathing in I am

Judy Tsuei  07:09

take a few cycles of breath here to really allow that statement to sink in I

07:17

am when you're ready, on the next inhale breathing in

Judy Tsuei  07:41

simply saying inwardly or outwardly i

07:46

As you exhale. On the next inhale, repeating I let it out on your exhale. One more breath in. Hi. And release and let it go.

Judy Tsuei  08:27

As we come to the close of this meditation, reminding yourself of who you are

08:33

at your core that you are a loving, kind, thoughtful human.

Judy Tsuei  08:45

That because you are human, you also make mistakes and

08:48

missteps. But that at the end of the day you are a beautiful soul here on this planet

Judy Tsuei  09:00

to exist and experience to contribute and share in only the ways

09:06

that you can. Taking another deep breath in. In a big sigh out.

Judy Tsuei  09:21

When you're ready, you can gently float your eyes open if they were closed, returning back into the flow of your day. Taking it slow, being kind and gentle on yourself noticing if anything has

09:34

shifted.

Judy Tsuei  09:37

And giving yourself space and grace to be all of you.

 09:44

I'll see you in the next episode.
