FULL TRANSCRIPT

Hello and welcome to the saving face cast we're empowering mental and emotional health for Asian Americans by breaking through Tappan topics like may not always be pretty but it is indeed let's make your story beautiful we are now in August for us in San Diego we consider this local summer because all of the tourists have gone back home the weather is absolutely incredible the water temp is phenomenal and you know June gloom in this year for us July gloom starts to give way so it's a wonderful time to be here in this past weekend I took my daughter camping with really close friends we try to turn our twenty eleven Prius into a camper van similar to the Toyota warrior Winnebago that we used to own so I got these foam pads and I quickly realized that the material that it's covered in makes noises when you move around so even though my daughter got phenomenal sleep I do not however our trunk was open and the sound of the ocean throughout the night was remarkable it was such a great opportunity to be around friends who feel like family and we spend time surfing her godfather came out my partner came back from New York so we had an opportunity to all served together it was a really great time I don't know if for you you can also feel something of the tides shifting in season one I interviewed someone who is a specialist in human design it's a fascinating interview I highly encourage you to check out that interview with the toria who actually came out to San Diego so we had an opportunity to have brunch I walked around and showed her the self realization fellowship actually took her out serving as well so this part because it's been a wonderful opportunity to conduct connect with remarkable people who have actually been able to meet and hang out with in real life I've always been fascinated by astrology and even though I don't really follow the horoscopes I think that it's always been a nice little check in every now and again to see what my life path has been based on the stars were in alignment or how it was pre programmed so recently my friends gifted me a massage with someone here in north county San Diego who's absolutely phenomenal he's sort of the low cost is five and he also does Jutish readings so we took a little bit of time to just kind of talk about where things were moving how things are looking at my charts and obviously different schools of thought have different ways that they approach the strategy and how to read you know your charts and similar to Chinese medicine I feel that a lot of it is subjective to the person who's interpreting the information but %HESITATION this massage therapist happens to also be a parent at the school where my daughter goes to school and is often you know at social gatherings so we've known each other pretty well and it was a really good opportunity to just kind of hear from somebody else the intuitive feelings that I've had where you know he was telling me about even from financial matters how things are shifting how the last couple of years there was this feeling of decreased fixed assets but now the tides are turning and it's a replenishing of all of that and I've definitely felt that momentum already growing and I'm excited to welcome more of it in and there was talk about you know where Jupiter is in my turn I'm saying all this stuff like I know what it is I don't although I do pay attention to key details and how one of the other learnings has been just that my life path and you know kind of the self mastering the soap wisdom will always be this feeling and he described it as like this beautiful element of my chart why I'm always going to be seeking and curious but there's a part of me that's always gonna wonder if another path might have been you know more suitable or if there's something else out there or you know whatever else it isn't so I feel that very much and it's demonstrated itself in relationships or career all of these other things the other thing that I've started to dive into after listening to a bunch of audio books and reading actual hard copy books which I still love about you know near the death experiences about what happens beyond the veil of what happens after we pass if you listen to the podcast up until now then you'll know that I've always been somewhat preoccupied with the hereafter with you know passing away and death and it's just always been a presence in my mind to make the most of the time that I have here knowing that you know none of us unless we follow what the Vedic astrologer that I saw when I was a yoga teacher %HESITATION said it which is that some people do know according to their charts when they're gonna die and which I think is really fascinating so I listened to this book called the Silva method and if you'll recall you know a few months back I did this high level intensive which was all about kind of rewiring my brain and moving through different attention all their years that I've hired or you know up leveling to the next level and I have to say that my key take away from that experience was that I did not have the profound shift that I was hoping would happen especially from a substantial investment and it made me realize that you know throughout all of my life I've had to externally seek wisdom because the people who served as my parents were not there for me guiding me along and in fact instead provided a lot of really difficult life lessons in my opinion and so you know I've looked externally for that and always just try to maximize my potential and it's funny because the person who I was speaking to about this with is a massage therapists were referenced at the beginning of this introduction about how there is no short cut him finally come to realize that and that you know patience is one of the things that I'm learning and just to truly appreciate the unfolding of the adventure now as it is one of the books that I started listening to is the Silva method and so you can Google that and take a look at it %HESITATION it's encouraging basically how to tap into different brain wave states %HESITATION simple meditations this person Jose Silva you know he was not a an educated professional he was someone who is very much self made and then eventually had ten children and used these methods on his children to encourage them to perform better in school and said just maximize who they could be calm and as other people began to witness this and this is in the nineteen sixties so yell was beginning to study yes P. as a valid science he then was able to replicate this for so many other people and the results that they have had we're really profound and you know fast forward to where we are now %HESITATION it's something that B. shin the Connie from mine valley also offers in his courses because this was something that he did it actually helped him change helped him change his life around when he was a sales person not making any sales discover this message start method started to exponentially increases results month after month and it's actually what led him to create my own valley as secret as he dove into you know these deeper mind states and really understanding what he wanted to do with his life and what he could create and so now he has one of the most successful self development universities essentially that exists today and I actually had applied to a job with them %HESITATION and got you know for a long a couple around when I was living in Taiwan but it would have been involved living in Singapore still living abroad and I know we're trying to get home so if you are curious about any of those resources then I highly encourage you to look into it and this guest today is Sashi Chandran who is the founder and CEO T. drops which creates backless whole leaf teas so she wrote her own patent for this new category innovation which sets less waste than traditional tea bag packaging to jobs has become a favorite among new and experienced tea drinkers alike launching innovative T. experiences that merge flavorful blends food art and innovation two drops are now available in two thousand retailers and our love by Oprah magazine Chrissy T. again and former First Lady Michelle Obama she's the twenty twenty one in a hundred female founder first place a hundred K. Tory Burch fellow grant winner and a first place fifty K. pepsico woman me challenge winner she's also raised over eight point four million dollars in VC funding for two drops so I encourage you to dive into this interview kind of you know TI is such an integral part of the way I grew up it's I remember loose leaf teas making them from my aunts and uncles whenever they were come over having such a hard time drinking it because I didn't understand why there wasn't a strainer but that's not how my family drink it I just drink it straight up with the teen spending two weeks back out and so you know this ties into kind of my the culture that I grew up in but then also merges it with innovation and %HESITATION female forward CEO and all of the things that are just very and oppression in my life today and just %HESITATION I would save the world today and I've had a couple of experiences recently a very honest and upfront conversations around diversity equity inclusion and just kind of the messiness of it all as we try to truly change how things have been done in a corporate setting it up you know in our relational setting it as I always say life may not always be pretty but it is indeed beautiful so giving ourselves the space and the grace and compassion to learn and grow so without further ado I invite you to listen to this episode welcome back to the FEC sitting based podcast we are in season three and this is super exciting because in season two we started branching out from Asian American Pacific islanders who started bringing in people of more different diverse backgrounds and so I'm really excited for today's guests who is the founder and CEO T. drops if you go to her link and she's Inc's female founders she's made a hundred lest %HESITATION you can also go to her website and see this adorable hello Kitty different stylized she drops right now which as we were mentioning before we jumped on this call it really speaks to the ten year old and me how like can I get a canopy and all of those things %HESITATION and so I'm gonna give you a brief background about two jobs and then I'm gonna turn it over to so she so she can share with you in her own words about how she created this company and then we'll dive into the mental and emotional health component that we always explored to room move any sort of taboo feelings around the things that people don't usually talk about that I feel like should be talked about in a more public forum so he drops is bagless whole leaf teas and it's about shedding fifteen percent less waste than traditional tea bag packaging to drugs has become a favorite among new and experienced tea drinkers alike watching innovative T. expenses that rich flavorful blends food art and edgy design they're now available in fifteen hundred retailers and by the way love by Oprah magazine Chrissy Teigan former First Lady Michelle Obama whose book by the way was phenomenal and I love to listen to her narrate that such is the first place twenty K. at W. F. and fast cash winner a first place a hundred K. Tory Burch fellow grant winner in a first place fifty K. pepsico women may challenge winner so congratulations on all of those feats I'm she's also raised over eight point four million in VC funding pretty drops so all of those are phenomenal athletes but I'm gonna turn it over to the founder for you to share in your own words a little bit about your company and how you arrived here now sounds great thanks for having me Judy really appreciate it %HESITATION my journey began actually drain begins many years ago but I come from a very T. centric household my mom is trainees and my daughter she Lanka so both of those countries were huge tea producers and exporters my parents my parents are both immigrants the U. S. and so T. culture and the ritual team it's a huge part of my upbringing and that's something that really stuck with me that at every family gathering or I know you know celebratory moment there is always a Cup of tea at the table and so I I started so seating T. with various memories growing up you know having chrysanthemum with my mom was very special should make that when I was feeling sick or having a block of some tea with milk I tried with my grandma was something I really %HESITATION have strong memories out of and and you know was very there's a very dear memories to me so I grew up loving T. and grew up and started working in the corporate world and at eBay in Silicon Valley and I noticed that the ritual of making tea is a very labor intensive process for those of you who like to speak to you you know that you need to Catalonia's trainer you need a %HESITATION need to loose leaf tea you have to wait five to seven minutes for to brew and tea bags never really taste the same as true is the T. and I was something I observed I went to my local market saw that there really wasn't any convenient way to make loose leaf tea and style %HESITATION the first thing I did was just start experiment with tea blends myself and one thing led to another is a year and a half of experimentation but eventually I came up with a T. drop which is a bagless form of tea it's finely ground tea spices a little bit of organic cane sugar all compressed together in a fun and fun shape and it dissolves in hot water so you can have a very clean very %HESITATION easy bruh every single time you make it I started out selling farmers markets and artisan shows and just kind of story by story builds up our retail account moved from making two drops in my apartment kitchen to now %HESITATION were you know produced in full scale factories and %HESITATION are available nationally so very long winded but that's so exciting our goal well I love it because when I grew up I just remember my %HESITATION the adults in my family drinking tea loose leaf tea but they didn't use like any sort of strain or whatever they were just flat top of the league summit just like use their balance as the strainers exact that's you and that's why with two drops you still have %HESITATION the loose leaf tea sentiment at the bottom of your copy you know that it's %HESITATION that it's not freeze dried because I remember that too whenever my grandma might on my mom's side should make us tea they're always being nineteen years at the bottom so yeah and you know I lived in Taiwan for a while and one of my friends nearly %HESITATION ended up moving from becoming an acupuncturist to actually making these beautiful tea pots and ceramic teapots and so he was refining that craft and then it showing me what a ritual she is and I think that because and we'll get into the entrepreneurial there's some element of it as well I think that I was always so driven and trying to move so fast that being able to stop and pause was so difficult for me and so you know becoming a yoga teacher at some point and learning mindfulness meditation those were all wonderful practices but I still find you know really creating those moments even if it's just a few minutes it can be so challenging so the fact that none of modernized this tradition is so beautiful %HESITATION I would love to hear more about your culture and heritage because you're a Chinese mother and she and she often father and you know we've not had a guest who's been on who's from Sri Lanka or anything like that so %HESITATION what was your cultural upbringing like well it was you know it's it's a hard reason like I'm no other comparison other than very multicultural household my parents actually well my parents are immigrants my dad came to do his MBA at UCLA and my mom %HESITATION came to China when she was eight years old and I was after long story short %HESITATION her really being disconnected from our families when she was two years her mom and dad came to America to pursue a better life left her behind kind of like as it was soldier birth papers it was really hard for birdie while America and she wasn't sure to like take this whole story %HESITATION to basically get into the U. S. and our parents died on like some oh my goodness whatever so you finally gets the U. S. and she's eight years old %HESITATION relative brings her over %HESITATION but she ended up you know growing up in Massachusetts and then I getting into UCLA and so as an undergrad she was actually studying Chinese studies and my dad was an MBA student and I'm like very soon after they met at an international student dance the Chinese cultural center or something yeah so they met at a dance and the rest is history %HESITATION they did it all through %HESITATION my mom's time at university and work together after a lot of those things happening in their relationship because my dad was the eldest of his family and %HESITATION there is a lot of civil war going on in Sri Lanka at the time so because of that %HESITATION because his dad had a heart attack in between him you know finishing his degree had to go back and sell things with family so my parents actually did get married %HESITATION until eight years after they started dating which is very unusual %HESITATION but anyway so they so they made a Los Angeles their home and I just have you know very strong memories of both influences you know by that time my grandma on my mom's side had come to stay with us my grandma on my dad's side had come to the U. S. and so %HESITATION I just had a very warm memories of like you know our thanksgiving being so different from a traditional thanksgiving where like yes there be a Turkey but there also be like a curry and my moms you know famous Chinese tradition like string beans at the like it was it was just like I didn't know any different but now in hindsight I think these are some of the warmest memories for me of just having just kind of like so different from my peers because you know we ended up moving you can mention to Malibu and like we don't there's really the only I we all colors of light brown people believe only brown person in in school %HESITATION and so I used to be you know quite bears fightback by in hindsight you kind of her so grateful for %HESITATION that defining childhood and the memories I like all of the cultural influences that have you know made me who I am today I think that that's such a good point because I feel like so many of us have had those feelings of being embarrassed about certain things that only as an adult and with perspective and time can you look back and be appreciative did you speak any other languages going up no and that's something I really regret so because my parents you know obviously like my mom didn't speak Tamil I might die yeah %HESITATION you know one of the languages and Sheila okay and my dad and speak to me as if my mom so they just decided to raise us speaking English and my mom just got Chinese school so there's a part of me that's very jealous about and so you know before we got on we were talking about the aspect of entrepreneur listen and mental emotional health when it comes to maintaining relationships and one of the reasons that I wanted to explore that today is because I find that %HESITATION for all the people who know me really well and then know that I am now in a relationship and my partner does the exact opposite I guess you could say you know he's a school administrator is a very linear career path you know he jokes to me like you know you can go on online and find the schedule at which you know I will be at school working which is so the opposite of what you know I do and so I've had friends reflect back to me like I think it's interesting that you are this visionary dynamic person and then your partner is the opposite and so I've personally you know had to kind of explore that and work through that and see and I talk to a therapist one time he said yeah you can for sure go find somebody else who matches your driver or whatever in the you know entrepreneurial world that's gonna come with its own set of challenges and you're just gonna have to choose what it is that you feel like is most important to you and I think you know for a lot of us we don't grow up thinking about what our core values are or you know whether that's in the company that we build or in our own lives were just hold these are our core values or that's how we're raised and then you know it's not until probably over the last decade during a lot of personal growth work that that question even came up what are your core values what's most important to you and especially in relationship as well the finding that so that you know what your true north is and what's going to support you and it might be surprising the things that do support you and dealt and so I'd love to hear your experience of relationship and what all you've gone through to find where you are now in relationship yeah I mean it is such a waste like I was turned Bernie like it's really hard to even synthesized in probably the time we have here but you know I I when you're talking like I I feel a lot of kinship and similarities in terms of like not knowing right what what is the right path %HESITATION I think for me in the example my my parents like it was traditional in a sense of my mom which when you meet her she's a very low %HESITATION vocal allowed a person in a sense like has very strong opinions by the end of the day she does like to for to my dad in his direction %HESITATION and that's a model I saw you know my dad was like the head of the household one about and there are aspects of that that I just always inherently rejected %HESITATION and only because I just felt like I'm you know my mom's voice and my mom's opinions are equally valid and like not that he did have great direction I think he did it just there are just certain things in equities that %HESITATION I saw it in the in the broader culture that I did not want for myself and I knew that much but that's like kind of the only aspect of relationships I really explored %HESITATION and so you know I think in in being an adult and I had my laptop and I don't like my longest relationship was seven years we weren't married but you know we are partnerships I mean years and %HESITATION I think so much of that was just figuring it out and at that point I'd started T. drops and it's almost like I feel in hindsight I used to drops and like entrepreneurship almost as a as like an escape or a method to avoid some of these hard questions and the hard work to like figure out what is it do I really like that I want what is it that I want to I want kids do I not is it just because I feel like societal pressure on kids or do I really want kids %HESITATION in terms of our partner do I want someone who's like myself or do I want to benefit from the strength of someone different and %HESITATION you know my relationship now and my fiance like we couldn't be more different you know I'm very entrepreneurial Uriel creative like kind of do our before I think and he is very kind of calculating in the sense that he's very planning oriented he works in computer science as no problem leading through reading your contracts and all this other side I'm like like it would just make my mind like strange you know so I find that like it's hard at times but I'm like there there's so much to learn from someone who's different from you in that way but at the end of the day %HESITATION your core values have to line and that means like our spiritual outlook %HESITATION what we see is important in life the wait the fact that we even do equally like we want kids and that's kind of after my last relationship I I kind of had a insight like I do want kids I just wanted to be with a partner who I feel is going to like you know Kerrey %HESITATION the shared burden of and like what's required %HESITATION and to the bigger picture things like how do we want to spend our days you now %HESITATION those all I kind of did the up front work of like really asking those questions up front and us having those conversations up front %HESITATION and not it's so comfortable for me to just be like hosting and yeah you know be fine in a partnership and understanding progress toward getting married or anything else I met so many of these things but I feel that there is %HESITATION you know we were talking and I talked about even even outside of this relationships become get on their own you take aliment of like entrepreneurship and also societal commentary and not just produces a whole another set of confusion %HESITATION and I see that is two fold one is like you're working so hard against this one objective you know whether it's growing company and like you sacrificed so much for it that and it really you spend so much energy doing at that do you actually have the energy to take on one more thing and that one more thing can be different everyone's life kids or in my case it could be like a relationship to really invest and not and that's been a struggle for me to like balance the two and I have seen that like play over time and time again %HESITATION and then the second thing all of which we can touch on is like I I think the societal commentary especially for female entrepreneurs I mean it's it's double I just took one it's it's obviously hard for for you know we see this is the sixth of %HESITATION percentage of females who gets venture venture funding nothing harder in some ways %HESITATION but also there's this narrative I think and more of %HESITATION the female founder community like I can do it on my own I don't need a relationship I don't need a man type of thing and I also don't think that's the answer he is like really do want connection we won't really so I think figuring out like navigating through all that messaging and finding your own truth %HESITATION can be hard in this apartment when there is so much guilt and shame for the things that we want that our natural wants %HESITATION I remember eating this but range and in the very beginning the other was saying like so many seniors will come to me with so much guilt and shame because everyone had told them for so long you need to reach down and focus on one thing is like but I've never found that to work I was always a generalist and it was actually that that really holds all of my skill sets to really move businesses forward and so all the CEOs we just come in and say like yeah I could never resonate with that too so they were holding the shame of like why can't I fit that mold and so what you're talking about two is when it comes to being a female entrepreneur there are all those messages of like you know being a badass and like all these kinds of things and you know from so many different elements %HESITATION I always believe in the balance of like UN Yang and masculine feminine however you identify ads I still think that there's that receiving energy and not moving forward pushing energy and when you're doing too far one side or the other it's usually not you know it's not sustainable for the long term which I think that it's always essential to have the peaks and the valleys and like you know the whole cookies there kind of pictures so I think for so many people they would identify with that same understanding of like well I feel guilty because in addition to wanting all these things for my business I also want the partnership or I also want a family and I also wants you know there are certain things I totally resonate with you about watching my traditional Asian parents and the dynamic that they had that I was like I don't want that and then there were certain other things that I was like but I do want a little bit of this in this way you can me like I do want to feel supported in this way for me and then whatever it is one of my dear friends we always joke when we became friends and she was just like I knew like I loved you because you're a guy girl like the fact that we have more of that masculine energy and yet if we were all at dinner and you saw it you would probably not use that word to describe us like that's not how we portray our goals were old morally get his it was hard to %HESITATION that's hard to pinpoint but I like you said like I girl energy because I totally resonate with that you know there's like a part of me that's like you could say is more masculine line whack it's not exclusively at work because I cannot be like %HESITATION idea like super driven or just light now go at all costs the grit a line like I all of these things but also remembering like the qualities that help you in this particular instance don't actually help you in relationship yeah and like really distinguishing the two and I'm not talking awhile because I'm like why wouldn't the same principles here work there and they just don't because like you're right like there is there is a balance of masculine feminine that has to be realized and %HESITATION %HESITATION that is a dynamic and I could be and you know that I can be issued Dan in %HESITATION all kinds of relationships whether it's heterosexual or not but yeah but that balance has to be there and that's like what makes for you know chemistry or whatever and so I think also recognizing that which took me a long time yeah absolutely you know one of the other things that I wanted to explore is that you were staying in your story in the very beginning that you first sort of making this in your kitchen and then you were you know as a former US markets all this kind of stuff I was just listening to a stop this morning that like eighty percent of millionaires were not that their self made they were not like legacy you know money and even more that the majority of them only made like a hundred thousand dollars a year that was like them the average like Max and so is investments and like you know understanding how financial investments work that got them to that next level even if there are any yeah my and so I thought that that was so fascinating and one of the yeah I think one of the things that's so interesting and I've had like you know someone who started this PC fine talk and on the podcast in season two I just idea money because a lot of times from immigrant families the it's so loaded that topic and there's like just so much dad and I interviewed and Natalie Nino who help me re frame like in her book she wrote like there is also a good kind of debt like the dad hops like build your business that's a good kind of debt and that was the first time I'd ever heard that %HESITATION and so I think that I want to underscore you know if you continue to move forward in the direction of your dreams and it wasn't like you know I mean I don't know maybe you did come from like chosen but it doesn't sound like something yeah I mean I have to recognize the fact that like my parents work their ass off right my dad literally came to this country besides a scholarship from UCLA with like twenty dollars in my yeah was like hustling range she was actually the breadwinner you know when they first started and she was like a server and just like they are true we %HESITATION what we would imagine as like the American dream of the unknown yes life for their children and I'm so grateful I was able to go to a great public school and now %HESITATION not have not have like a fraction of the worries that I think a lot of inscribed with I'm not sad like my parents always instilled with us you know you'll work from an early age like it was there was no like you're getting a car and I was working by this house while I was working at %HESITATION and so like that was I think really important for my own gross you could save hundreds wow like making this money and like actually spending it having to manage it were skills that I learned %HESITATION the under other benefit I had which I think is like very neat from what I might from what I see like not traditional of most Asian families that might my dad was like quite a risk taker you investment so he was like because he made his money similar to you never really made a lot %HESITATION salary wise but he at his you know the first paycheck he went to go to real estate seminars and learn on his own like %HESITATION if I buy %HESITATION you know this house I can fix it up I can rent it and then use that as leverage to buy my second property in third property so I was exposed to that mentality and law and like my dad takes pretty hefty risks on on things which I'm like whoa but it's only like it was okay to do you know like it's not always going to pan out but without that you won't you won't actually know so when the choice between going to get my MBA are starting to drop it was gonna be equal investment fifty K. nine B. as in business I kind of took that approach like tear drops being my MBA this will and not being the past so like you know some of its already you're still in Graham to some of this because you've you've seen it before and that's not always the case for everyone yeah I think that you know I've been lucky to interview a lot of people from such different backgrounds and a lot of people who are giving back to inner city youth in the communities that they came from actually just spoke to the shop who was on hell's kitchen and he is from Nashville and he's like nobody from the inner city of Nashville when they when someone gets on TV and not for good reasons like you're usually seen them like you know in negative light so I want to be yeah and he's like I want to be on TV so I could show these kids that there is a possibility and unless you see it you can't not like believe that it's true %HESITATION it's harder for your yeah so am I think that what you're saying you know I always love the same luck favors the prepared and so in addition to having opportunities it's up to us as individuals to take responsibility and make the most of every moment and then that's when you know with for example all the different %HESITATION a words that you want you know I think that it was each stop priming you to the next one and getting out and being ready yes Sir yeah close is there a group well %HESITATION that says as he walked away appears and kind of like just how I am I remember reading that quote when I first started to drop them like brain dead held onto it and it still holds true because I think there's so many unknowns when you walk into something and it could be anything a new job you know going to a new school starting a business that you just don't know what I had but you just have to take one but from the other do you feel like it was an MBA education that you got from building to drop we're sure that hold I'm like not only can it be over at this one what are your next steps for details would you looking forward to I'm all we're really like re shifting so much in the business %HESITATION I mean it's just hard to like voice over in just a few %HESITATION you know we're we're like one of the first France to offer personalized T. subscription number one month which is like you can actually pick and choose exactly the TV on your box customized to you so raunchy that were also really like I've been embracing male T. %HESITATION and so we have a whole line of %HESITATION not only are Boba kids but we're launching a lot take care %HESITATION %HESITATION really leaning in on like the matcha latte kids %HESITATION we we ought to cats and so that's like the next installment for our multi %HESITATION which is very exciting and a lot more %HESITATION that the rest of the year but how big is your team now we are now twelve people full time and then our indirect team is about twenty one I see indirect team it's like our manufacturers and our so it is a group of us total exciting so as we close this interview I ask every guest you know what's one thing that you would say fuck saving face about so what would you say that you would love people to consider shift their perspective around you know kind of explore I think it's what I had on earlier which is our relationship especially is like women and women doing hard things are like masculine things in the world of our %HESITATION our mental health but that encompasses how we look at relationships and how we look at %HESITATION even feminism and femininity and I think again I'm like I'm not a helpful narrative is like you can do this on our own you're a lady boss and like you know you don't you know man type of like I just don't think it is a helpful I know that's maybe like I'll get backlash for that because I think you know people that feel very strongly about it but I think we should acknowledge we need connection and I'm if we want a relationship we want these things like why deny that you know so %HESITATION that's what I was saying about thank you thank you for sharing that yeah I was saying before we jumped on this call actually got an Instagram message from someone who read an article that I posted in mindbodygreen about like soul mates and love and you know this is I published an article maybe like over ten years ago and I'm still getting responses from people who are like oh you know so I feel like relationship and connection is always such a deep need it within all of us and even to build a business you know it requires so many other people to navigate that and to help bring that shared vision to life so again not feeling guilt around that and instead like honoring and acknowledging that is huge which is also funny because you know since the time that I wrote it I was like I've been divorced you know all the time life continues to ebb and flow and we're only approaching it with the greatest within that we have in this moment exactly yeah like living life that way %HESITATION well thank you so much if people want to follow up and ordered him to drop where can they go yes two jobs %HESITATION our website is my T. drop dot com and it's my T. drop if you want to learn just learn more about what we're up to you are by and our values %HESITATION it's out my T. drop across Instagram Twitter or tick tock contrasts the whole range so you might need thank you so much thanks for having me thank you I do think that statement that you need to see representation to believe what's possible is you know so true I recently went out for drinks in north park San Diego and he's really cute bars with a client slash new friend of mine and while we were there having drinks we kind of talked about buying property and for me in my mind it's just been such a hurdle in terms of emotional area that I just and when I get into and before I could have planted on like not wanting to commit or whatever but it's more actually that I wish that in my twenties I had known more about how to invest my finances because I had a financial adviser at the time who did not tell me anything about how property might be a good investment you know or anything like that warning me you know buying a car full out which is not a smart financial decision because it's just a immediately depreciating asset and so I wish that I had that you know no more about it and I think that in the process of finding out how much I will qualify for there's just judgment and this fear around judgment that it would be kind of this like on paper demonstration that I didn't make the right decisions for myself however that's not giving myself the spacing grace and I encourage an introduction about the fact that our lives are so different and meander and often don't point to what we initially anticipated but that there are certain things that are necessary that are much more worthwhile so me taking that time and that money for almost a decade investing in my personal development in my healing you know I did basically eight to ten years of therapy I became a yoga teacher I began to pursue the things that I really loved and cared about and magic continue to unfold in my life so it did not look the way that traditionally I had thought that it would look and I think that that's one of the reasons I still always have my toe dipped into kind of more traditional setting and even as an entrepreneur because the ingrained beliefs that I have from growing up were still very much playing a role in my life and so because I went out to drinks with this friend and she's thirty and by her house our conversation after that helped me to just re frame so many things and to give myself permission to you know just go continue to move forward that it's not it doesn't have to be so scary when I first got the email from the mortgage broker in March I looked at it and it felt extremely overwhelming but a couple weeks ago I looked at it again I was like oh no I can do this I can finalised people work and it was just you know this tiny growth personal reflection Ruth and seeing people in your life who are
